Parenting Capacity Assessments

  • Evaluates the strengths and challenges in parental functioning.
  • Identifies factors that may impact the parent-child relationship.
  • Assesses parental understanding of child development and needs.

Substance Use and Parenting Impact Assessments

  • Assesses the impact of substance use on parenting capacity.

Domestic and Family Violence Assessments 

  • Evaluates the impact of domestic violence exposure on children.
  • Assesses parental risk and protective factors related to family violence.

Developmental and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments

Mental Health (Psychiatric) Assessments

  • Assessment of trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.

Comprehensive Family and Risk Assessments may include: 

Reunification Assessments

  • Determines readiness for child-parent reunification.
  • Examines stability, attachment, and caregiving capacity.
  • Provides evidence-based recommendations on conditions required for safe reunification.

Trauma and Attachment Assessments

  • Comprehensive evaluations of children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other forms of trauma.
  • Attachment-based assessments to determine the quality of child-caregiver relationships.
  • Identifies therapeutic interventions and supports needed for emotional recovery.

Sexual and Criminal Risk Assessments 

We provide clinical supervision, coaching and mentoring, and critical incident debriefing. These services can be provided to individuals or groups, including teams or larger organisational groups, and centre on trauma-informed care. 

We provide tailored professional development activities, including trainings, workshops, and webinars on a variety of topics. 

We welcome referrals from the Department of Child Safety staff and legal professionals to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed assessments that support child safety and family wellbeing.

Process and Referral Pathway
  1. Initial Consultation: Referral from the Department of Child Safety or legal representatives.
  2. Assessment Sessions: Structured interviews, psychometric testing, observations, and collateral information gathering.
  3. Report Preparation: Comprehensive analysis of findings with clear, evidence-based recommendations.
  4. Feedback Session: Discussion of outcomes with referring agency and key stakeholders.

Dr. Victoria Barclay-Timmis and Khara Saunders are Clinical Psychologists with a combined experience of over 20 years working in the field of child safety. They provide a range of comprehensive psychological assessments tailored to the individual and family needs of children and parents involved with the Department of Child Safety.
